Laird Thermal Systems today announced the acquisition of Tark, Inc., a U.S.-based supplier of specialized pumps and cooling solutions for the medical and industrial CT and X-ray tube industry. Laird representatives signed the contracts with Tark's previous owner in March 2024.

Tark has made custom pumps and cooling solutions since 1985 and operates a manufacturing facility in Dayton, Ohio, where the company also houses its design and engineering staff. According to Laird, Tark's unique technologies and continuous improvement capabilities have allowed it to maintain a competitive advantage with high-quality, high-reliability, low-noise and best-form factor products.

In a statement, Christoph Bauckhage, Laird's CSO, said the acquisition aligns with the company's strategy to serve mission-critical applications. It will add critical thermal management components, like refrigerant cooling systems for medical equipment, and strengthen Laird's global engineering and manufacturing footprint.

Laird designs, develops and manufactures thermal management solutions, such as thermoelectric coolers and assemblies, temperature controllers and liquid cooling systems, for the medical, industrial and telecommunications markets. The company has facilities in Germany, the Czech Republic, Sweden, China and Durham, North Carolina.

Bauckhage said Laird was drawn to Tark's product portfolio and manufacturing prowess, as well as the company's integration and ongoing product development capabilities.
