(Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany) has developed a new class of precision gear racks that use a carburized case-hardening process to increase the strength of the rack, including the tooth flanks and root, which maximizes power density, stiffness, and performance. Because of the increased power density, a small rack size can be used, according to the company.

In addition, the hardening process allows the back surface of the racks to be used with cam follower roller bearings for guiding the axis. The systems come in straight and helical versions, and can be combined with the company’s precision pinions and servo reducers.
